The University of Nebraska–Lincoln is offering students, faculty and staff an opportunity to participate in a week of service that honors the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.

The event, which is Jan. 18-21, will feature food donations and time to volunteer to pack 2,000+ rice and bean meals that will be distributed to feed the hungry across Nebraska.

Participants can register for shifts of 30 and 60 minutes to sort food donations and pack the meals for the Food Bank of Lincoln. Volunteer dates and times are:

11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 19 in the Nebraska Union’s Ballroom;

11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 20 in the Nebraska East Union’s Great Plains Room; and

1 to 4 p.m. Jan. 21 at the Food Bank’s distribution center.

Huskers can also donate items from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 18 at the Student Leadership, Involvement and Community Engagement Office, Room 200 in the Nebraska Union. Canned, dry, bagged and boxed varieties of rice and beans in non-perishable packaging will be accepted. Frozen packaged items will not be
