Vanessa Gorman and Robert Gorman are developing new digital techniques to decide the authorship of unknown works and to determine the accuracy of otherwise-lost texts quoted and excerpted by later authors based solely on the syntax of the language used.

Professor V. Gorman will explain and demonstrate these techniques in English, describe some preliminary results, and discuss some of the research questions that may be addressed in this fashion, using “corpus linguistics” data and the computer programs R and XQuery. No knowledge of ancient Greek is needed to understand this presentation.

Presented by the Department of History.
