David Leishman will discuss the international work of USDA and career opportunities for UNL students and faculty, including touching on several just-opened full-time, paid internship positions in Washington, D.C., with FAS for this summer.
Discover the science and art of agricultural diplomacy. Dr. David Leishman (Senior Director, Foreign Affairs, Africa and Middle East) works with USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service to bring Nebraska beef to Europe, California almonds to India, Florida orange juice to South Korea, and Oregon wine to Russia. In 2020, U.S. agricultural exports reached a record $162 billion. Foreign markets currently absorb about one-fifth of U.S. agricultural production, supporting more than 1.3 million jobs. For companies large and small, global forces of supply and demand are a challenge and an opportunity.
