Chad Johnson, CEO of Nebraska-based Grain Weevil, will present a Husker Trade Talk on Sept. 29 examining the effects on U.S. ag tech startups from global supply chain considerations and U.S.-China trade relations.

The Clayton Yeutter Institute of International Trade and Finance is sponsoring the talk, from 7:45 to 9:15 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 29, on the second floor of the Dinsdale Family Learning Commons on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s East Campus. The event will include a light breakfast.

Johnson’s presentation, titled “Securing the Supply Chain for Ag Tech Startups,” connects to the increased focus in international trade negotiations on supply chain issues, as well as increased complications in U.S.-China trade relations.

Grain Weevil, based in Aurora, Nebraska, produces remote-controlled grain bin safety and management robots. UNL engineering alumni Ben Johnson and Zane Zents co-founded the company. In his presentation, CEO Chad Johnson will explain how Grain Weevil, which draws on the global marketplace for its operations, addresses trade-related logistics in an era of change in U.S. trade policy and global trade discussions.

Nolan Johnson, a UNL senior and this year’s recipient of the Steve Nelson Yeutter Institute International Trade Internship Award, helped organize the Sept. 29 event. Johnson, an Omaha native majoring in economics and political science, spent this summer interning at the Washington International Trade Association. He is the third recipient of the internship award, which was established by the Nebraska Farm Bureau in honor of Steve Nelson, a former Nebraska Farm Bureau president energetic in overseas trade missions and who emphasized the importance of the global marketplace for Nebraska’s agricultural sector.

Husker Trade Talks generally are educational events directed toward UNL students, but the Sept. 29 presentation also is open to the general public and Nebraska stakeholders.
