Friday, April 9th, 2021 from 4:00 pm-5:00 pm Central Time the University of Nebraska College of Law Student Animal Legal Defense Fund will be hosting along with Indiana University Maurer School of Law SALDF chapter, a networking event for law students across the nation interested in the animal law field. Our night will begin with 2-5 minute presentations from each of our panelists and then we will split off into breakout sessions so you may ask each panelist more about their jobs, career advice, and pathways. The following are our panelists that will be attending the event:

Alyssa Sander, Animal Law Program Fellow, ALDF
Alyssa Sander is the Animal Law Program Fellow at the Animal Legal Defense Fund. As Animal Law Program Fellow, Alyssa assists with educational programs and opportunities while managing various academic outreach resources. She is a 2020 graduate of Lewis & Clark Law School in Portland, Oregon. During law school, she served as a Source Checker of Animal Law Review, interned for the International Animal and Environmental Law Clinic, clerked for the Animal Legal Defense Fund and the Center for Animal Law Studies, and was Pro Bono Chair of the school’s Animal Legal Defense Fund Student Chapter. As Pro Bono Chair, Alyssa served as the law student representative on the planning committee for the 27th Annual Animal Law Conference.

Elizabeth Baker, Pharmaceutical Policy Program Director, Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine
Elizabeth Baker, Esq., is the Pharmaceutical Policy Program Director for the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, a nationwide organization of physicians and laypersons that promotes preventive medicine, especially good nutrition, and higher ethical standards in research. Ms. Baker works to modernize drug development to save human and animal lives by shifting nonclinical research from the use of animals to modern technologies that are more relevant to human biology.

Erin Sutherland, Staff Attorney, Animal Welfare Institute
Erin Sutherland is a Staff Attorney at the Animal Welfare Institute. At AWI, Erin works in the farm animal department where she supports the team’s litigation, regulatory, and legislative efforts. In particular, Erin specializes in transport, labeling of animal products, and government transparency matters. Erin earned her J.D. in 2016 from Lewis and Clark Law School, where she specialized in Environmental, Natural Resources, and Energy Law. Prior to joining AWI, she clerked for the public interest firm Meyer, Glitzenstein & Eubanks in Washington, D.C. Erin now resides in Portland, OR.

Maral Cavner, Corporate Outreach Manager, Animal Equity
Maral Cavner, Esq. is the Corporate Outreach Manager for Animal Equality, an international animal protection nonprofit. Animal Equality does work in eight countries, across four continents, but the focus of Maral’s work is in the United States. In her role, she encourages, collaborates, and negotiates with major food companies and producers to adopt and/or strengthen meaningful farmed animal welfare policies.

Will Lowrey, Legal Counsel, Animal Outlook
Will Lowrey is Legal Counsel for Animal Outlook (formerly Compassion Over Killing). In this role, Will works to challenge systemic animal cruelty by engaging in civil litigation directed at government agencies and the animal agriculture industry. In addition, Will provides legal support to Animal Outlook’s undercover investigations, managing risk and engaging directly with local law enforcement.
