The expenses of college education are rising, including the cost of textbooks and course materials. Open Educational Resources (OER) are a means to alleviate some of the expenses of course textbooks and materials, with the goal to improve student retention and success.
We are inviting 20 faculty to join Karen Gardner-Athey from, the State University of New York, Office of Library and Information Services for a hands-on workshop which will provide attendees with an understanding of OER, how to identify and work with OER materials as well as ensure they are properly licensed.

Attendees will review student course learning objectives as they search for OER materials and plan how to implement those OER materials into their courses. Pedagogical implications of OER will be discussed.

Learning Objectives for the workshop:
Participants will:
1. Review OER concepts;
2. Be able to identify the steps for assessing, preparing and incorporating OER into their courses, including mapping student learning objectives to OER materials;
3. Understand the pedagogical implications of OER;
4. Have started/created an OER implementation plan for a course(s).
