Title: Commuting nilpotent operators

Abstract: I will discuss some recent joint work with Eric Friedlander
and Julia Pevtsova on some very basic problems in the study of finite
groups and finite group schemes. Most of these involve a system of
commuting matrices on a vector space. Most of the lecture should be
understandable to anyone who knows linear algebra.

Refreshments will be served in 348 Avery 3:30-4pm. The talk is free and open to the public.
