The UNL School of Music presents the seventh annual Celebration of American Song. This year’s celebration honors Frank Loesser. As both a lyricist and a composer, Frank Loesser contributed over 700 songs to the great American songbook. His songs provided hits for Frank Sinatra, Tex Ritter, Doris Day, Judy Garland, Betty Hutton, Lawrence Welk, Ella Fitzgerald, Rod Stewart and so many others.

UNL’s voice faculty, alumni, and students will present live performances of Frank Loesser’s songs, ranging from the ubiquitous “Heart & Soul” (for which Loesser penned the lyrics) and the flirtatious, holiday duet “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” to the spirited celebration of “I believe in you” and the sexy torch song “I’d Like to Get You on a Slow Boat to China.”

Dean of UNL’s Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts Jack Oliva will be featured at the piano, and Coordinator of Musical Theatre Studies Alisa Belflower will serve as host narrating with anecdotes from Frank Loesser’s colorful life and career.

Discover the composer of American standards that continue to stir the hearts of contemporary audiences a half century after wowing us with the music written for his iconic musicals including Tony Award-winner Guys and Dolls and Pulitzer Prize-winner How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.

This performance will be presented in two acts with an intermission and an approximate running time of 90 minutes. Tickets are available at the door on the evening of the performance.

Tickets: General admission $5, student/senior $3, available at the door approx. one hour before the performance.
