The UNL Jazz Orchestra and UNL Big Band present one of the most exciting jazz programs of the year: The 5th annual NEW MUSIC FOR BIG BAND from UNL concert! This unique program features music written by the student composer-arrangers of the Glenn Korff School of Music and will highlight several world premieres.

Selections include:
• ON MY WAY TO YOU, a beautiful ballad by Michel Legrand and arranged by Kara Baxter (DMA ’14)
• YOU STEPPED OUT OF A DREAM, a swinging new arrangement for big band by Taylor Cobb (BME ’14)
• FRACTALS (It is…), a contemporary new arrangement by Mike Dee (MM’14) of a piece by saxophonist/composer Ben Schachter
• LICKIN’, a high energy swinging chart by Bobby Fuson based on the ubiquitous jazz melodic motive known to many musicians
• MATATAKI (in the blink of an eye), an extended tone poem for jazz orchestra by Masayoshi Ishikawa (DMA ’15)
• ONLY YOU, a new ballad for jazz orchestra by John Kosch (BME ’16)
• FELA, an Afrobeat influenced tribute to the Nigerian master musician Fela Anikulapo Kuti, composed by Darren Pettit (DMA ’16)
• FOGO ACIMA DAS NUVENS, a new samba by Dave Stamps (DMA ’14)
• SPEAK LOW, an Afro-Cuban treatment of the Kurt Weill classic arranged by Chris Varga (DMA ’15)

We hope to see you there!
