Dr. William McMullen’s UNL faculty oboe recital on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at 7:30 pm in Kimball Hall will also feature Catherine Herbener, harpsichord and piano, and Dr. John Bailey, flute. The program will consist of four works under the theme, “Something old, something new, something bold and something blue.” The first work on the recital is by the baroque Italian composer Giovanni Platti who likely composed the Sonata in c minor for oboe and harpsichord while he was in Germany working in the court at Würzburg. The British composer Paul Patterson created his “Phoenix Sonata” for oboe and piano in 2011 from an earlier concerto by the same name for oboe and orchestra that he composed in 2009. The third work on the recital is by the Italian composer and virtuoso oboist from the romantic era, Antonino Pasculli, which he wrote for himself to perform as he traveled around Europe in the later 1800’s. The last work is by the contemporary composer Bill Douglas who lives in Colorado. For flute, oboe and piano the trio is based on several different blue’s patterns.
