Adolf Busch, Quintet for Saxophone and String Quartet (with Paul Haar, saxophone); Beethoven, String Quartet in E-flat Major, Op. 127
Violinist Adolf Busch left his native Germany when Hitler rose to power and emigrated to the U.S. in protest on the eve of World War II, bringing his quartet—the Busch Quartet—with him. Settling in Vermont, he founded the Marlboro Music Festival with his piano collaborator, Rudolph Serkin. The Busch Quartet was the first group to record the late Beethoven quartets, and in this fascinating concert, the Chiara Quartet will be joined by Paul Harr (saxophone) to play Adolf Busch’s saxophone quintet, as well as one of the late Beethoven quartets that Busch brought to the attention of audiences worldwide.
