The University of Nebraska Brass Quintet will present a program by brass players composed for brass players in Kimball Recital Hall on March 14 at 7:30p.m. Though it was not the original intent to play music written entirely by our compatriots, it turned out that by choosing these works we were able to come up with an exciting program of old and new music. The program includes music by Anthony Plog (a trumpet player), Kerry Turner (horn), Malcolm Arnold (another trumpeter) and an arrangement by Vern Reynolds (also a hornist). The pieces range in style from staples of the repertoire like the Quintet op. 73 by Malcolm Arnold to new pieces such as the tone poem The Casbah of Tetouan by Kerry Turner. In between, listeners will be treated to an amazing bit of timbral experimentation by Anthony Plog and a setting of William Boyce’s music by Verne Reynolds. If you’re looking for music that ranges from the early 18th century to the present day, this is the recital for you.

The University of Nebraska Brass Quintet is comprised of UNL faculty and is dedicated to the performance of original repertoire works and new music for brass quintet.
