The UNL Chamber Singers, under the direction of Dr. Steve Grives, presents “Miniature Monuments” a concert of some of the most significant masterworks composed for chamber choir. The performance features Gregorio Allegri’s double-choir motet, “Miserere mei, Deus” J.S. Bach’s motet, “Jesu, meine Freude” and, from the modern era, John Tavener’s “Two Hymns to the Mother of God” and Finnish composer Einojuhani Rautavaara’s “Suite” de Lorca. Included on the program as well are movements from George Shearing’s “Songs and Sonnets,” - jazzy settings of Shakespeare texts, and Shawn Kirchner’s inspiring setting of “Unclouded Day.”

This group is UNL’s premiere vocal chamber ensemble. A small choir of 24-28 voices, it is intended to provide the highest level of choral chamber performance experience for graduate and undergraduate singers at the School of Music and throughout the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.

The choir explores a broad range of repertoire specializing in literature for unaccompanied vocal performance and contemporary vocal chamber ensembles; including works from early music eras, traditional choral chamber music as well as contemporary literature, and new music composed expressly for them.
