The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Jazz Studies Area is pleased to announce the final large ensemble concert for the 2016-2017 concert season. Titled: Music from UNL, this concert will feature arrangements and originals by University of Nebraska-Lincoln students, alumni and faculty. Included in this evening’s concert will be works by Greg Simon, Andrew Janak, Chris Leach, Waturu Nimori and others.

The Jazz Orchestra is the university’s showcase jazz organization and one of the Glenn Korff School of Music’s most visible performing groups. Membership in the Jazz Orchestra is determined by audition each semester, and music majors as well as non-majors are encouraged to try out. This versatile ensemble performs all styles of music from Duke Ellington to the contemporary artists of today.

The Big Band is a vital component of the jazz curriculum. Through intensive rehearsal and performance, students are encouraged to develop and nurture the fundamental skills necessary to perform a wide variety of repertoire, and to engage in the creative process through improvisation. Big Band is specifically designed to motivate and inform music educators and aspiring teachers through innovative programming and pedagogical methods.
