The UNL Jazz Studies Area in the Glenn Korff School of Music is pleased to announce the second large-ensemble concert of our 50th season! The UNL Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Paul Haar and the UNL Big Band, under the direction of Andrew Janak, will present “Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow.” This concert will feature works by noted jazz composers/Arrangers, from the past 50 years, as well as arrangements and original compositions from current and former UNL students and faculty. Featured UNL composers and arrangers are: Andrew Janak, Paul Krueger, Karl Lyden and Randall Snyder.

This concert will take place on Friday, December 1, 2017 at 7:30 pm in Kimball Recital Hall.

Directed by Dr. Paul Haar, the Jazz Orchestra is the university’s showcase jazz organization and one of the Glenn Korff School of Music’s most visible performing groups. Membership in the Jazz Orchestra is determined by audition each semester, and music majors as well as non-majors are encouraged to try out. This versatile ensemble performs all styles of music from Duke Ellington to the contemporary artists of today.

Directed by Andrew Janak, Big Band is a vital component of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln jazz curriculum. Through intensive rehearsal and performance, students are encouraged to develop and nurture the fundamental skills necessary to perform a wide variety of repertoire, and to engage in the creative process through improvisation.
