The UNL Campus Bands will perform a two-part concert featuring the music Balmages, Gómez, Grainger, Spittal and many others Thursday April 26 at 7:30 pm in Kimball Recital Hall. The bands take the names of UNL Directors of Band Emeriti.

The first half of the program presented by the Donald A. Lentz Concert Band is titled “Hemispheres” reflecting its international flavor as well as referring to the hemispheres of the human brain. The music of Australian composer, Percy A. Grainger (Ye Banks & Braes O’Bonnie Doon) will be performed along side UNL Band Graduate Assistant Rubén Dario Gómez’s own Tu Llegada. The band will close its portion of the night with Todd Stalter’s frantic Scramble.

Following a brief intermission, the Jack R. Snider Concert Band will take the stage and present “Through Time and Space”. This portion features the music of Morales, Oare, Prescott and features Open Space by Brian Balmages. The evening will come to a dramatic close as the band performs music from the Sci-Fi classic, Doctor Who television series. In order to complete the Sci-Fi “Vibe”, the band will be joined by Jared Alberico performing on the Theramin.

Both bands are under the direction of Assistant Director of Bands, Douglas W. Bush who shares conducting duties with Conducting Associates Sarah Aymond, Christopher Brandt, and Rubén Dario Gómez. Tickets are $3 for students/senior adults and $5 for general admission.

Here’s how Bingo Night will work. The first 100 people who want to participate will be given a bingo card as they enter the recital hall (by the program stands). Participants will keep track of their cards throughout the performance (please don’t shout BINGO when you get it). Then following the performance an area in the front lobby will be set up to show your winning bingo card and to redeem for a prize!
