Open to teachers of all grade levels, and is for 3 UNL graduate credits in English or Teaching, Learning, and Teacher Education. Past participation in a NeWP Summer or Rural Institute is preferred. This institute will explore civic engagement for teacher, through literature, rhetorical action, and civic partnerships. A collaboration with Nebraskans for Civic Reform is probable.
Institute activities include: writing about/from civic issues; reading and discussing civic engagement texts in several genres; guided tour of state legislative process with active state senators; developing and sharing civic engagement teaching.
