In this workshop we’ll discuss major themes and issues with socialism as well as covering the ideas of what socialism is, how it’s understood today, and how it was applied in the past. Data, analysis, and student activities will highlight the history of socialist thought and application over time. Understanding and comparing economic systems is necessary for students to understand the world in which they live.

Participants will leave this workshop with lessons, activities and background information that includes:
1. Socialism – What Is It? This activity compares student responses with results of a poll of the general public and introduces the definition of socialism.
2. Socialism Defined – the problems of control and incentives.
3. Missing Information and Missing Prices – an activity on the problems of central control with limited information.
4. Failures of Socialism – the knowledge problem and the pathologies of privilege.

Date: Saturday, March 23, 2024

Time: 10:00-3:00 p.m.

Location: Cornhusker Bank, 8310 O St. Lincoln.

To complete registration, a $50 refundable deposit is required. Please mail a check made out to NCEE at 730 N 14th St. HLH 201. Lincoln, Nebraska 68588.

Upon completion of the workshop, teacher participants will receive a $150 stipend and your deposit will be returned to you.
