The FireWorks Rain Garden was planted in 2009 by the employees of Telesis, Inc (the parent company for FireWorks) and the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum. A second planting was held in 2010 to fill in places from plants that hadn’t made it through the next winter and a third planting happened in 2011 to repair damage caused by construction of a building next door to FireWorks, in the process of routing the rain water from their roof into the rain garden.

The garden is planted with a variety of herbaceous mesic plants and herbaceous mixed prairie plants, shrubs and trees. The planting area is 11,500 sq. ft. It depends on when you come to look at the garden as to what plants will be in bloom.
The impact of the garden has been:
• Reduce storm water runoff into creek by 89-90 percent
• Eliminate significant amounts of parking lot pollutants from storm water runoff
• Eliminate 15,00 square feet of high-input turf grass
• Provide habitat to several important birds and many insect species
• Increase below ground carbon storage in deeply rooted greases and perennials.
