Abstract:
The gyrotropic birefringence is the birefringence effect in the media with magnetoelectric ordering, which, in contrast with the ordinary birefringence, has some unique features that are both fundamentally interesting and valuable in an application point of view. A discussion about this effect using classic electrodynamics will be presented. Its experimental observations in optical and antiferromagnetic resonance frequencies will be discussed. Finally, a potential application utilizing this effect will be proposed.
