Abstract

Harnessing the Power of L ATEX: A Hands-on Workshop for Any Level of Mastery

LATEX is one of the foremost typesetting tools used in the production of high quality scienti?c publications. If you have not already, you will certainly be required to produce papers at some point in your research career. While some people swear by other not-to-be-named word processing tools (you know who you are), the power and beauty of LATEX-produced documents is clear to even the casual observer. At this installment of the graduate seminar we will provide a hands-on workshop where, at your own speed, you can become familiar with the most important aspects of LATEX typesetting. We hope to provide some useful tricks and insights for everyone, from the beginner to the most seasoned of veterans. If you wish to use your own computer at this workshop, your laptop is also invited (but it can’t have any pizza). In such a case, please come prepared with an installation of TeXstudio and TeX Live, both of which can be downloaded for free.

Install Guide: * Download TeX Live (https://www.tug.org/texlive/acquire-netinstall.html) and run the FULL INSTALL. Note: This may take a very long time. Let it run overnight.
* Download TeXstudio (http://www.texstudio.org/) and install.
* Download and compile a simple test document (open ?le in TeXstudio and press F5) (http://tinyurl.com/texSampleGSS)
