Abstract:
Molecular spintronics has made significant advances, with progress towards molecular electronics that utilizes the spin degree of freedom. Such molecular devices are being realized, after decades of effort. More specifically, through the combination of traditional molecular electronics with spintronics, the possibility of making three-terminal spintronics devices from molecular systems, indeed a molecular spin transistor, has now been shown to be possible. Here, several molecular transistors using single molecule magnets have been reviewed. In these systems, the gate voltage tunes the molecular anisotropy, thus altering the magnetic properties.
