Over the past ten years, American exports of agricultural products have seen explosive growth and Nebraska is the nation’s 5th largest ag exporter. Particularly important to the state is Japan, which now purchases over $1 billion of ag products from Nebraska every year. Jordan Schlake with the Nebraska Department of Agriculture will discuss agriculture in Japan and Nebraska and what makes Japan such an important market for our state. He will discuss recent developments in trade policy as well as the work by Nebraska companies, industry organizations, and state government to further reach out to this vital market.

Jordan Schlake is an Agriculture Promotion Coordinator with the Nebraska Department of Agriculture. His duties include promoting Nebraska’s beef industry and assisting with development of Nebraska’s agricultural products. A UNL grad in Economics and International Studies, Jordan studied in Japan through UNL’s partnership with Senshu University and has since participated in trade missions to Japan with the State of Nebraska. Jordan is originally from Fairbury, NE and currently lives in Lincoln with his wife.
