The 2011 Winter Interim Teaching and Learning Workshop will focus on integrating systems-thinking in the classroom. The workshop will provide an introduction to systems-thinking, faculty perspectives on systems-thinking, and breakout sessions on how UNL faculty are using a systems-thinking approach in the classroom. All UNL faculty, postdocs, and graduate students are welcome to attend. ??Systems-thinking focuses on the system level and the dynamic interactions among the system’s components and functions. We live in a world comprised of systems that are transdisciplinary in nature. Many important problems that our society faces today are complex and require a systems approach for developing solutions. Unfortunately, most current instruction fails to develop a systematic and integrated understanding of systems among our students. Participants will learn how UNL faculty are moving toward using a systems-thinking approach in the classroom and discuss the opportunities for incorporating systems-thinking in our foundational and upper-division courses. ??Suggested Resources: http://www.lindaboothsweeney.net/ http://www.thinking.net/Systems_Thinking/systems_thinking.html http://www.sustainer.org/?page_id=87
