This weekend, the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center will offer a movie talk on the documentary “Waiting for Superman.”??”Waiting for Superman,” showing Feb. 11-17 at the Ross, is a documentary by Davis Guggenheim about the United States’ failing public school system. The film examines the public education system through multiple interlocking stories - from a handful of students and their families whose futures hang in the balance, to the educators and reformers trying to find solutions within the system.??
The movie talk is 2:30 p.m., Feb. 13, following the 12:40 p.m. screening of “Waiting for Superman.” Panelists include Deborah Andrews, a student learning activist who writes a column on Lincoln Public Schools for http://www.examiner.com; Robert Evnen, an attorney and vice president of the Nebraska State Board of Education; Ted Hamann, an associate professor in UNL’s Department of Teaching, Learning and Teacher Education; Steve Joel, superintendent of Lincoln Public Schools; and Jess Wolf, president of the Nebraska State Education Association.??The movie talk is free and open to the public. Admission to the 12:40 p.m. screening of “Waiting for Superman” is at regular Ross prices.
